He had pneumonia and was also suffering from cancer for a long period of time.Adcock played 26 Tests for South Africa between 1953 and 1962, and took 104 wickets at an average of 21.10. After he took 26 wickets in a Test series in England in 1960, Wisden honoured him as one of their five Cricketers of the Year in 1961. He played 99 first-class games, taking 405 wickets at 17.25 apiece. After retiring, Adcock became part of SABC’s radio commentary team.”Neil was one of the great fast bowlers during what was truly a golden era of fast bowling,” Cricket South Africa’s acting chief executive Jacques Faul said. “At that time England had Trueman, Statham and Tyson; Australia had Lindwall, Miller and Davidson; and the West Indies had Hall and Gilchrist. India have dropped Virender Sehwag for the first three matches of the five-ODI series against England, which begins on January 11 in Rajkot. The decision came after Sehwag was left out of the XI that beat Pakistan in an ODI in Delhi earlier in the day. India gave a maiden limited-overs call-up to Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 203 off 221 balls in a Ranji Trophy match last week.A BCCI source told ESPNcricinfo that this could well be the end of Sehwag’s limited-overs career. Sehwag has been dropped, said the source, because “he doesn’t figure in the plans for the 2015 World Cup”. Pujara has been brought in “to anchor the innings, especially in the wake of new rules”, which now allow a maximum of two bouncers per over and require a minimum of five fielders inside the circle at all times, which encourages more attacking bowling. Fawad Alam scored a century in his debut Test for Pakistan in 2009, making 168 out of a total of 320 against Sri Lanka in Colombo after Pakistan were shot out for 90 in the first innings. He finished third on the batting charts in Pakistan’s premier domestic first-class tournament in 2011-12, with 945 runs at 67.50 for National Bank of Pakistan. This season, after six matches, he’s on top of the run-scorers’ table, his 446 runs coming at 51.77.Yet Alam has only three Tests to his name, the last of which was in November 2009. Three Tests, 27 ODIs and 24 Twenty20s. He is considered more of a limited-overs player, despite not having made much of a mark in the shorter formats and despite his fine numbers in first-class cricket, which show his technique isn’t flawed and he has the temperament to succeed in the long form.’A cricket university at home’
Alam grew up in the shadow of his famous father, Tariq Alam, whose two-decade first-class career ended in 1994. Tariq Alam is now a popular coach, and has mentored many modern Karachi players – including the likes of Younis Khan, Saeed Anwar and Rashid Latif. Fawad said his father is a source of encouragement for him. “I didn’t need to go out to learn cricket – he was there for me to guide and take care of me,” Fawad Alam said. “He is my courage and a cricket university at home who helped my career develop.”
Alam quashes the notion that he is a short-format player, and puts his lack of Test caps down to luck. “I’ve always wanted to be prominent, and I want gain this prominence by scoring heavily. I think my first-class career is evidence enough to dispel this false perception,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “I have scored runs in difficult situations and won my national place in 2007. If I am away from the national side, it is perhaps because of my luck; otherwise I have scored enough.”I don’t even buy this point, that I am only getting a chance in the wrong format. Yes, I have more success in longest format of the game, but I have been scoring in all formats. Now I am doing everything I can to make a comeback. You ask in which format? That is what selectors have to decide. I just want to focus on my cricket.”So what kept him from cementing his place in international cricket? He’s payed 51 limited-overs games between May 2007 and December 2010. Former and current selectors believe that Alam was short-changed when compared with the other well-established limited-overs players in the team. “In the presence of the [Shahid] Afridi, [Abdul] Razzaq, Umar Akmal it was bit hard for him to step up and match them in limited-overs cricket,” a former selector said. “These days ODI and T20 cricket demand some big hitting, which we need to see from Fawad. Otherwise he is good all-round cricketer in the longer format of the game. His temperament is well-suited for multiple days of cricket.”Alam leads National Bank of Pakistan in the President’s Trophy, and is clear about the importance of his role as captain. “I believe cricket carries a lot of emotions and the captain is like a mother who always backs even if you are falling and that is a key to thrive. My hundred on debut was the result of Younis ‘s trust in me. Being a captain, he worked hard with me and helped me in the nets. I don’t think any captain does that these days – he is legend and a great human being.”

Tanto a comissão técnica como os torcedores do Grêmio descobriram através de exames realizados nessa segunda-feira (8) quanto tempo o atacante Everton estará fora de combate. A contusão muscular de Everton na coxa direita, suficiente para a sua recente desconvocação da Seleção Brasileira, foi avaliada como de grau 2.
Logo, o tempo inicial de recuperação necessário será de 15 dias, algo que fatalmente tira o jogador das próximas duas rodadas do Brasileirão diante do Palmeiras no próximo domingo (14) e diante do América-MG no dia 20 de outubro em Belo Horizonte.
A maior preocupação por ora do lado gremista é conseguir recuperar seu camisa 11 pensando no primeiro jogo da semifinal da Libertadores programado para o dia 23 desse mês frente ao River Plate no Monumental de Núñez.
Apesar de em tese a quantidade de dias de recuperação não permitir isso, o clube tem confiança de que o processo de recuperação dessa lesão seja tão bom como foi no início do ano quando Everton superou problema no adutor da coxa em somente 10 dias. Na época, o tempo normal que era estabelecido para a plena recuperação era de três semanas.

Yorkshire concluded their most successful Friends Life t20 campaign by beating Derbyshire by 21 runs to top the North Group and earn a home tie against Worcestershire in the quarter-finals. It was Yorkshire’s seventh win of the campaign, the sequence being interrupted by two no-result fixtures, and their only defeat was inflicted by Durham who beat them by two runs in the opening match.Put in to bat by Derbyshire, Yorkshire were given the ideal start with an opening stand of 131 by Adam Lyth and Phil Jaques, a county record for the first wicket, and they never looked back, although the visitors worked hard to restrict them to 180 for 5, their joint highest score of the season.Lyth was the faster scorer of the two openers but both made good progress. The pair put on 57 in the initial six-over powerplay and with Lyth reeling off a series of quality drives through extra cover he reached his 50 off 34 balls. Tom Knight was pulled for six by Lyth and the stand raced into three figures in 11.5 overs before Jaques reached his half-century from 34.The stand went past Yorkshire’s previous best for the first wicket of 116, set earlier this season by Andrew Gale and Jaques, and it was just six short of Yorkshire’s highest for any wicket – 137 by Gale and Herschelle Gibbs against Durham at Leeds in 2010 – when Lyth was caught on the midwicket boundary off Chesney Hughes.Jaques followed in the next over when Knight had him caught at deep midwicket off Alex Hughes to leave Yorkshire on 150 for 2 in the 17th over. He blasted Pyrah for three consecutive sixes off the first three balls of the 16th over, claiming 24 in total off the over.He and Garry Park put on 55 in four overs for the seventh wicket before Park was caught in the deep off Moin Ashraf who bowled Tim Groenewald in the same over. Chris Durham fell to Starc and Naved was denied sufficient of the strike to continue his onslaught, ending unbeaten on 40 from 22 balls with four sixes.
