Southampton are the latest Premier League side to be linked with a move for Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe and the youngster could be a superb addition to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side this summer.

What’s the word?

According to 90min, Southampton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves are all keen on signing the 20-year-old, who is likely to leave the German side this summer as they look to raise funds to ease their precarious financial situation, which was only made worse by their relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

The report suggests that the named clubs are expected to make an approach for Hoppe soon, and given that Danny Ings’ future with Southampton is currently in doubt after he rejected a contract offer from the club, perhaps we will see the South Coast club act quickly to bring in the USA striker as his long-term replacement.

Would he be a good signing?

Despite Schalke’s struggles last season, Hoppe was able to contribute six goals and one assist in 22 Bundesliga appearances, which saw him finish as their top scorer in the German top-flight, despite it being his first season in the first-team.

The Lowdown: Kane situation unclear

The future of Harry Kane at Spurs is currently unclear, as Fabio Paratici has recently admitted that he would like to keep him after the England international captain reiterated his desire to leave (Sky Sports).

Whether the 27-year-old stays or goes, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will surely be looking to bring in a new striker, whether that would be to replace Kane or play as a backup to him.

The Lowdown: Seferovic interest

As per Italian football journalist Rudy Galetti, the north London club are ‘interested’ in a move for Seferovic and are ‘thinking about making an offer’.

He describes the transfer saga as an ‘evolving situation’ and claims that the Benfica forward could make a move to the Premier League.

The Swiss international is currently valued at around €25m (£21.4m), and it may be a deal to watch as the window progresses.

Whatever happens with Kane, Tottenham should be looking to snap up a proven goalscorer in Seferovic.

The 29-year-old managed 26 goals and a further seven assists in 48 games across all competitions across the 2020/21 season (Transfermarkt) and carried that form into Euro 2020 with Switzerland.

Seferovic scored two headers against the reigning world champions and tournament favourites France in their last 16 tie, showing just how much of a beast that he can be in the air. With a 6 foot 2 frame, he should have no difficulty at all in coping with both the physical and aerial demands of the Premier League.

Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is reportedly preferring a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Italian side Atalanta this summer, according to The Athletic.

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in signing Tomiyasu has been well-documented ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, and it appears as though they’re confident of reaching an agreement to land his signature.

Tomiyasu made 33 appearances in total for Bologna last term, as they finished 12th in the Serie A table, whilst under the management of Siniša Mihajlović.

The 6 foot 2 defender still has three years remaining on his contract with the Italian side, and Spurs have reportedly made an offer in the region of £12.9million for his services, with Tomiyasu having a valuation of £18million according to Transfermarkt.

The Athletic have claimed that Tomiyasu is reportedly keen on a move to Spurs, despite interest from both Manchester United and Atalanta this summer.

It’s reported that the Japanese international isn’t one of Manchester United’s primary targets ahead of the new season though, with the Red Devils seemingly have their sights on signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, is leading the negotiations over a potential deal for Tomiyasu, so it’ll be up to him to make sure the player’s choice isn’t all for nothing.

Newly-appointed boss Nuno Espirito Santo has also been briefed on the efforts to sign the 22-year-old.

This will be pleasing to hear for Spurs supporters, who will be keen to see additional depth added to their squad ahead of the 2021/22 league campaign.

Tomiyasu is a player that Paratici and co clearly rate highly, and they’ll be keen to get an agreement in place at the earliest of opportunities, as they look to avoid the risk of losing out to either Manchester United or Atalanta this summer.

At the age of 22, you would imagine that he’s still got his best years ahead of him, and the Spurs supporters will be hoping that it’s with them moving forwards, after he was hailed as a “giant” in defence by Italian media earlier this year.

He boasted an average of 1.5 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per game this season, and if Tomiyasu can hit the ground running with Nuno’s side, then this could turn out to be a smart investment by the Premier League side in the long-term.
