Rangers begin their Scottish League Cup campaign with a game against Championship side Dunfermline Athletic at Ibrox tonight, with Steven Gerrard’s side looking to win the trophy for the first time since 2011.

The Gers come into the game on the back of three consecutive defeats, with the 2-1 defeat against ten-man Malmo earlier this week possibly leading fans to ask serious questions of their side after a hugely disappointing start to the 2021/22 campaign.

After an unbeaten league campaign last season which saw them earn their 55th Premiership title, Rangers fans will have been full of hope for the new term, but they have been brought back down to earth after defeats against Dundee United and two against Malmo.

However, Friday night represents an opportunity to get things back on track as they face Peter Grant’s side at Ibrox, and Gerrard has made it clear that he wants success in domestic cup competitions this season, which suggests that he will name a strong side despite the Championship opposition.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Gerrard to line up his team at Ibrox, with eight changes from the team which started against Malmo earlier this week:

It seems likely that Gerrard will continue to alternate goalkeepers, so Jon McLaughlin comes back in for Allan McGregor in between the sticks.

There are three changes in defence, with only Connor Goldson keeping his place from Tuesday’s defeat, as Filip Helander replaces Leon Balogun, whilst Calvin Bassey and Nathan Patterson come in for Borna Barisic and James Tavernier respectively in the full-back positions after the latter duo’s less than impressive performances in the final third against Malmo.

In midfield, Glen Kamara is restored to the starting lineup after being suspended against Malmo, and he is partnered by Joe Aribo and John Lundstram, with Steven Davis and Scott Arfield dropping to the bench.

Ianis Hagi, who was described as “outstanding” by Gerrard in 2020, comes in for Scott Wright on the right wing, with Ryan Kent keeping his place on the left.

They support Cedric Itten up front, with the Swiss striker earning a start with Alfredo Morelos rested. Fashion Sakala misses out through injury, with Kemar Roofe also rested after a difficult few days at home for the former Leeds United man.

Steve Parish and Crystal Palace will not budge on Wilfried Zaha’s valuation, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern.

Zaha had been strongly linked with both Tottenham and Everton at the end of last season but nothing is yet to materialise.

The latter’s interest dates back to 2019 where they had an offer rejected for the player, which was confirmed by the club (via Liverpool Echo).

Transfer insider Dean Jones, speaking on the Football Terrace, has claimed that Spurs are still looking at Zaha ahead of deadline day. Palmer, though, has warned them and other outfits not to expect a discount.

“Steve Parish is one of those guys. He won’t budge on this,” the ex-Leeds United player said. “If he’s said it’s 50 million, for example, it’s 50 million. So it’s for the clubs now to trigger that.”

While you would never rule anything out, it would be a surprise to see Tottenham splash out on Zaha in this moment of time.

Nuno Espirito Santo currently has the likes of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn for those attacking positions, the trio all impressing in that recent 1-0 win against Manchester City.

They have also just brought in Bryan Gil from Sevilla so are hardly lacking in that area of the pitch right now.

كشفت تقارير صحفية سعودية عن موقف المحترف المصري أحمد حجازي من الاستمرار ضمن صفوف اتحاد جدة خلال الموسم الجديد.

ويخوض فريق اتحاد جدة مباراة قوية أمام الاتفاق يوم الخميس المُقبل، على ملعب محمد بن فهد، ضمن منافسات الجولة قبل الأخيرة من الدوري السعودي.

وكان أحمد حجازي قد انضم لصفوف اتحاد جدة خلال عام 2020، قادمًا من صفوف وست بروميتش الإنجليزي.

وأفادت صحيفة سعودية، أنه إدارة الاتحاد قررت رفض كافة العروض لشراء كورنادو ورومارينيو وجروهي وأحمد حجازي وحمد الله.

An update has emerged regarding Ipswich’s interest in Crystal Palace defender Jaroslaw Jach.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the Suffolk club want to sign the Eagles centre-back on loan before the end of the transfer window.

Nixon claims that the Tractor Boys and their League One rivals Wigan are both showing an interest in the Polish defender.

Disaster

Mark Ashton and Paul Cook must avoid a disaster with this deal. Jach has had a troubled career in England with Palace and the evidence suggests that he would be a poor signing for the Blues, which is why they must avoid him between now and the end of the month.

The defender has made just one senior appearance for Palace (in the Carabao Cup) in three years. He spent part of last season on loan to Fortuna Sittard and was limited to just three games in the Eredivisie. This unsuccessful loan spell suggests that he is not in the best of form at present and would arrive at Portman Road lacking in confidence, which is not ideal for a club hoping to push for promotion.

Why has it not worked out for him at Selhurst Park? Jach has previously given his own explanation for it, stating that he has not been able to adapt to the physicality of the English game. However, he does not regret making the move and is determined to make it work.

He told Sport.pl: “I do not feel regret, only aggression and stubbornness. I want to prove to everyone that I can play in the Premier League.

“Yes, (the Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson) was a supporter of the transfer (from Lubin). But when I came to England, I was not ready for such a jump. It was hard for me to compete with the boys who have been playing in the Premier League for years.

“Today I have to gain experience and … grow. I devote a lot of attention to working out at the gym, because – to put it bluntly – in England, the physicality can kill you.”

This is why Ipswich must avoid the £10k-per-week dud. He is coming off the back of a disappointing season and has already given the club a reason not to sign him with these comments, as they suggest that he would be bullied by opposition strikers.

Any team swinging crosses in and lumping long balls to their tall, bulky strikers will seemingly be able to dominate Jach. Therefore, Ashton and Cook must look elsewhere and prevent themselves from heading towards a disaster with the Polish defender.

He was 61.Laycock was on the staff for six years between 1969 and 1974 during which time he made 12 first-class appearances. His best performance came on his debut against Leicestershire in 1969 when he made 58, his only fifty. He also made five appearances in the Sunday League without any success.He played for Sussex’s 2nd XI from 1966 to 1974, and although he scored heavily for them in his final summer he was unable to force his way back into a strong first team.
