Neste sábado, o Criciúma, um dos clubes ameaçados pelo rebaixamento, encara o líder Fortaleza, que tropeçou na última rodada e agora precisa pontuar de qualquer jeito para não ver os rivais se aproximando.

Na rodada passada, o Criciúma quebrou uma série negativa ao derrotar o Juventude fora de casa. Internamente, o elenco vibrou muito com o resultado e a expectativa é manter o astral no alto para surpreender o líder da competição.

Para o duelo contra o Fortaleza, a única mudança do técnico Mazola será no meio-campo. Suspenso pelo terceiro cartão amarelo, Liel abre espaço para Jean Mangabeira.

Do lado do Leão o clima é de otimismo, mas Rogério Ceni ligou o sinal de alerta. Com o tropeço diante do Figueirense dentro de casa, o Tricolor viu a vantagem em relação aos rivais diminuir e agora a missão é pontuar fora de casa.

Assim como o rival, o Fortaleza tem praticamente elenco completo. O único problema é Marlon, machucado. Por outro lado, Bruno Melo volta ao time.

Delhi Daredevils confirmed their standing as the team to beat with a fearsome opening burst from their fast bowlers, Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav, before a typically brutal David Warner innings pretty much guaranteed top spot. Kings XI Punjab, one of the lower-profile teams in the tournament, managed to stay alive till the final weekend of the league phase but couldn’t make it to the playoffs as a power-packed Daredevils line-up dismantled them with ease on a spicy pitch in Dharamsala. The result also meant that Mumbai Indians became the third team to qualify for the playoffs.On one of the best tracks for fast bowlers in the IPL this season, Daredevils stacked their team with five quicks, four of whom could nudge the 90-mph mark. Morkel and Yadav were virtually unplayable with the new ball, and by the end of the Powerplay overs, Kings XI were reduced to 20 for 4 and their campaign was seemingly over.Mandeep Singh has been Kings XI’s most prolific batsman this season, but he fell for a golden duck as he was drawn into nibbling an away-cutter from Yadav to the keeper. Adam Gilchrist has a century and two fifties in his last three innings in Dharamsala but he was dismissed cheaply this time, top-edging a pull, in what might well be his final competitive innings.Paul Valthaty’s disastrous season continued, as he flailed about in his comeback game against some high-quality pace from Yadav and Morkel before finally holing out for a ten-ball 2. The biggest blow, though, was in the sixth over, when Yadav got Hussey to mishit a shortish ball to mid-on. Yadav finished his first spell with the figures of 3-1-4-3.Kings XI have been written off before, only to repeatedly show they were no pushovers. They proved it again as Azhar Mahmood, who has been instrumental to Kings XI’s fight this season, stabilised the innings with a 57-run stand with Siddharth Chitnis. Both struggled to time the ball early on, but some freebies from Andre Russell helped them find their feet.There has been a clamour for Russell’s inclusion this season, especially given Ross Taylor’s horror run with the bat but the allrounder had a day to forget, leaking 51 runs on a day when no one else in his team went at more than 6.25. His worst over was the 17th, which was taken for 22 runs with Gurkeerat powering three boundaries, before Mahmood rounded it off with two more. That lifted the run-rate above six for the first time in the innings.Kings XI finished with 141, which seemed enough to challenge a Daredevils side missing both Virender Sehwag and Taylor. Those hopes were dashed once Warner unleashed those familiar hits over long-on and midwicket, again highlighting the number of match-winners Daredevils have in their squad.It wasn’t a flawless innings from Warner, who was hit by a bouncer from Ryan Harris early on, edged plenty and was put down at midwicket by Mandeep. That drop came at the end of an over in which Warner had muscled three sixes and a four off Parvinder Awana. Twenty-three came off that over as Awana, who went for only 12 in his four overs last game, watched helplessly.Warner chopped the first ball of the next over to bring up his 50 off 25 balls on a pitch where most batsmen struggled. He couldn’t add to his collection of Twenty20 centuries, though, as he slapped Harris to Mandeep at point in the 13th over. There was a brief lull in the scoring after that, but with the required-rate just above four, Daredevils were never really in trouble of losing.

Salman Butt, the former Pakistan captain who was convicted of spot-fixing, has returned to Pakistan after being released from prison seven months into his 30 month sentence, his lawyers have confirmed.Butt’s release under the government’s early release scheme for foreign nationals means he has been formally deported from the UK and cannot return for 10 years. He arrived back in Pakistan late on Thursday.Butt’s lawyer, Yasin Patel, said in a statement: “He will begin rebuilding his life and hopes to return to cricket. Salman Butt has had to endure a great deal of suffering, strain, pressure and humiliation over many months both personally and on behalf of his family.”His return back home will allow Salman to spend time with his family and relatives. He will get to see and hold his son whom he has not seen since his birth in November last year. He can now return to his beloved homeland, start to rebuild his reputation and begin the long process in his efforts to return back to top-level cricket.”Butt was jailed in November for his part in a conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls in a Test match against England at Lord’s in 2010. Fast-bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were also found guilty of corruption and accepting corrupt payments.Asif was released in May after serving six months of his 12 month prison term but he is still in the UK planning his appeal against a seven year ban from cricket. Amir served three months in a young offenders’ institute.The jury in the spot-fixing trial at Southwark Crown Court found Butt and Asif guilty by a unanimous verdict on the charge of ‘conspiracy to cheat’ and guilty by a 10-2 majority decision on the charge of ‘conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments’. Amir, the third player involved, pleaded guilty.Butt was also banned by the ICC for ten years (with five suspended) in February last year which unless the decision is overturned makes a return to the Pakistan side highly unlikely. He is the last of the three Pakistan players to be released.Butt lost an appeal against the severity of the sentence in November as did his teammate Amir, At the appeal, Butt and Amir were told by the Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge that they were guilty of “criminal conduct of a very serious kind”.Butt was named as the “orchestrator” of the spot fixing during the fourth Test between England and his team at Lord’s in August 2010. He was described as a “malign influence” on his team-mates Amir and Asif.Asif was released from Canterbury Prison in south-east England last month after completing half of his one-year sentence for spot-fixing. He is still under a seven-year ban (the last two years of which are suspended) imposed by an ICC tribunal. His international career also looks over without an ICC change of heart.Amir was released in February after serving half of a six-month sentence. He has since worked with the ICC in the production of an anti-corruption video. He was banned for five years and, at 20, is working with a psychologist to try to put the past behind him.Mazhar Majeed, the agent who was accused of setting up the deal that was uncovered by a newspaper sting operation, was imprisoned for 32 months. He is the only one of the conspirators still in prison.

Yorkshire concluded their most successful Friends Life t20 campaign by beating Derbyshire by 21 runs to top the North Group and earn a home tie against Worcestershire in the quarter-finals. It was Yorkshire’s seventh win of the campaign, the sequence being interrupted by two no-result fixtures, and their only defeat was inflicted by Durham who beat them by two runs in the opening match.Put in to bat by Derbyshire, Yorkshire were given the ideal start with an opening stand of 131 by Adam Lyth and Phil Jaques, a county record for the first wicket, and they never looked back, although the visitors worked hard to restrict them to 180 for 5, their joint highest score of the season.Lyth was the faster scorer of the two openers but both made good progress. The pair put on 57 in the initial six-over powerplay and with Lyth reeling off a series of quality drives through extra cover he reached his 50 off 34 balls. Tom Knight was pulled for six by Lyth and the stand raced into three figures in 11.5 overs before Jaques reached his half-century from 34.The stand went past Yorkshire’s previous best for the first wicket of 116, set earlier this season by Andrew Gale and Jaques, and it was just six short of Yorkshire’s highest for any wicket – 137 by Gale and Herschelle Gibbs against Durham at Leeds in 2010 – when Lyth was caught on the midwicket boundary off Chesney Hughes.Jaques followed in the next over when Knight had him caught at deep midwicket off Alex Hughes to leave Yorkshire on 150 for 2 in the 17th over. He blasted Pyrah for three consecutive sixes off the first three balls of the 16th over, claiming 24 in total off the over.He and Garry Park put on 55 in four overs for the seventh wicket before Park was caught in the deep off Moin Ashraf who bowled Tim Groenewald in the same over. Chris Durham fell to Starc and Naved was denied sufficient of the strike to continue his onslaught, ending unbeaten on 40 from 22 balls with four sixes.

A maior preocupação por ora do lado gremista é conseguir recuperar seu camisa 11 pensando no primeiro jogo da semifinal da Libertadores programado para o dia 23 desse mês frente ao River Plate no Monumental de Núñez.

Apesar de em tese a quantidade de dias de recuperação não permitir isso, o clube tem confiança de que o processo de recuperação dessa lesão seja tão bom como foi no início do ano quando Everton superou problema no adutor da coxa em somente 10 dias.
