Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC), which was left out of the revamped first-class competition this season, will be the eighth team in the one-day tournament that begins on January 15.West Indies U-19s have been drawn in Group B, alongside Jamaica, Leeward Islands and Trinidad & Tobago, while CCC are in Group A with reigning champions Barbados, Guyana and Windward Islands.After a round-robin group stage, the top two teams from each group will enter the semi-finals before the final on January 25.

Após retornar de Curitiba durante a tarde da última quinta-feira, o São Paulo se reapresentou nesta sexta-feira no CT da Barra Funda. No entanto, apenas os jogadores que ficaram no banco de reservas contra o Athletico-PR foram ao gramado para atividades com bola, enquanto os titulares fizeram exercícios na academia. Após o encerramento desse trabalho, no mesmo campo, foi feita uma atividade de ataque contra defesa.

Sobre as mudanças, Juanfran deve recuperar a titularidade na lateral direita. Já Anderson Martins pode ganhar vaga na zaga. Léo substitui Reinaldo e Everton volta no lugar de Vitor Bueno.

وأضاف: “إنه لاعب من الطراز العالمي، نود أن نتواصل ونعمل كثيرًا على التدريب وبدأنا نفهم ركضات بعضنا البعض”.

Sri Lanka’s Test opener Kaushal Silva has said his focus over the coming matches will be to better his conversion rate of fifties to hundreds and play important innings for Sri Lanka

Kaushal Silva is no stranger to the next step. His story so far has been full of incremental advances. At 28, he is already a veteran of Sri Lanka’s arduous domestic staircase. From among his team-mates he had excelled for the longest in first-class cricket, before being granted a stretch in the national side.Now, a full year since getting his big chance, he has embedded himself in the top order, with an average of 40.30 in 2014. But making it into the side has not quite been enough. The hunger that propelled him to 28 first-class hundreds before becoming a Test regular, now compels him to strive for a new standard of achievement at the top level as well. Having converted only one of his seven half-centuries into a ton, the next level might just mean a better conversion rate, Silva said.”I’m not satisfied with just hitting fifties,” Silva said. “I want the hundreds. I’ve done that at the club level and A team level, so I’m desperate to get over that hurdle here. Maybe there’s a lack of concentration sometimes. I remember sweeping to get out after I’d hit 95 against Pakistan, and another occasion when I played a bad shot in the 80s. But in those situations, I need to go on for the team’s sake.”Opening partner Dimuth Karunaratne’s young Test career had similarly been plagued by an inability to make more of his starts, but he found the skill and desire to make his first big Test score in the second innings in Christchurch. His 152 in difficult conditions saw him partly shake off a reputation for being a batsman who gives his wicket away too lightly.”I’ve batted a lot with Dimuth at SSC, and he’s a batsman who has hit a lot of big hundreds at the A team and club levels,” Silva said. “I’m very happy for him about his first ton. It’s great for me, as we’re always talking about how we should negotiate those early overs.”Watching him do that is a big challenge for me, because I’m thinking I have to do really well in the next Test as well. I’ve also been hitting 30s and 40s, and so the next target is something much bigger. I want to score heavily.”Silva’s partnership with Karunaratne had been moderately successful in their last tour together, in England in June, when they strung together opening stands of 54, 25, 37 and 40. While those were not imposing partnerships, they helped significantly ease pressure on Kumar Sangakkara, who did not miss crossing fifty once in the series, and finished as the highest run-getter.In Christchurch, Sri Lanka collapsed in the first innings when their openers produced only four between them, but fared much better in the second innings, when Silva and Karunaratne put on 85 for the first wicket.Sri Lanka fared better in the second innings in Christchurch when the opening pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva added 85•AFP

“The opening combination is very important to the team in a place like New Zealand, because we set things up for the whole batting line-up,” Silva said. “We really saw that in the second innings, where the tone for the innings was set by the partnership between me and Dimuth. In England we were able to have a few good partnerships at the top, and that was a reason for our success there.”As an opener, my plan is to somehow negotiate the first 15-20 overs – to make the new ball old. The two of us were talking a lot about batting out that period. In these conditions, Trent Boult and Tim Southee are very good, but we thought if we rotate the strike and take quick singles, they won’t be able to bowl at a single batsman for a long time. Their rhythm can change then, which might lead to more scoring opportunities for us. That’s what our plan was in the second innings, and that’s what we will try to emulate in Wellington.”Sri Lanka had had extended preparation time before the tour of England, when the Test specialists had spent two weeks training in Sussex while the limited-overs leg of the tour took place. Silva said that intensive preparation had been key to his good performance in England – where he scored 146 runs with two fifties – but having now played a Test as well as the two-day warm-up game, in New Zealand, he feels he has a clearer idea of what it takes to prosper against the hosts.”There’s no huge difference between English and New Zealand conditions, but there is a difference in the attacks. These bowlers pitch it up more than the England attack, and their swing is greater. The thing Boult and Southee do well is swing it late. I’ve never faced bowlers who swing it so late, and are still so accurate. They are both in the top-ten world rankings, and it’s a big challenge for us in these conditions, but we have the quality to counter them – I believe that firmly.”In England there was more seam than swing, so here, we really have to be mindful of what our scoring areas are. We can’t drive as much as we do in Sri Lanka, so we have to identify those things. We’ve got to restrict ourselves to the good scoring areas, and only move to our normal games after we’ve settled down at the crease.”

Até por receberem uma quantia menor que um atleta, a situação dos funcionários é a pior. Na última segunda-feira, alguns trabalhadores da sede social do Botafogo não foram ao serviço por falta de dinheiro de passagem. Os que foram, por sua vez, pagaram pelo transporte do próprio bolso, como vem acontecendo nos últimos dias.

Não há perspectiva de melhora. Os funcionários acumulam dívidas e mais dívidas e a fonte está secando. Além da questão das passagens, o Botafogo também não fornece recursos no quesito da alimentação: no último mês, o clube colocou entre 15 e 50 reais no cartão de vale-refeição dos funcionários, o que dá uma média de R$ 0,50 a R$ 1,60 para serem gastos por dia – levando em consideração um mês com 30 dias.

Sem nenhum tipo de resposta vinda da diretoria, os funcionários estão “no escuro” em General Severiano. Internamente, os trabalhadores estão incomodados com as condições precárias que vem sendo apresentadas. Na próxima sexta-feira, o Botafogo vai completar dois meses de salários atrasados com atletas do time profissional e funcionários – além disto, alguns jogadores possuem três meses de direitos de imagem em débito.

Na última terça-feira, a água do Estádio Nilton Santos foi cortada por falta de pagamento. O Botafogo contou com a ajuda de Carlos Augusto Montenegro, ex-presidente, para quitar três contas atrasadas junto à CEDAE para normalizar a situação.

Errata: em contato ao LANCE!, o Botafogo e o vice-presidente executivo do clube, Luis Fernando Santos, negaram a viagem do dirigente ao exterior anteriormente citada pela reportagem.

Yorkshire have brought fresh ambition to the NatWest Blast by completing the signing of two of Australia’s most destructive Twenty20 batsmen: Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell.Finch and Maxwell are both expected to play a prominent part for Australia in the World Cup and their arrival at Headingley, coming so soon after Shahid Afridi’s decision to join Northants, is a shot in the arm for England’s T20 tournament as it faces up to comparisons with the Big Bash League.Finch, Australia’s T20 captain, and Maxwell will both arrive at Headingley in late May immediately after their IPL commitments. He had a decent, if not spectacular, tournament in 2014 and will feature in all formats for Yorkshire.Yorkshire have long prioritised their Championship cricket, and took the title in 2014, but with debts of more than £20m they are desperate to translate their reputation as a cricketing county into regular sell-out T20 crowds.Maxwell has the greater challenge of trying to maintain T20 form with only one match a week, a challenge that Kevin Pietersen, among others, has bemoaned as extremely difficult.Yorkshire will be desperate for the alliance of Finch and Maxwell to take them to Finals Day and fill Headingley in the same manner as Surrey and Middlesex are attracting large crowds to The Oval and Lord’s. He’s a clean striker of the ball, a wonderful fielder and he bowls some really good off spin but what I’m excited about is what he can bring to specifically our T20 game: a bit of entertainment and a bit of excitement.”He’ll perform well for Yorkshire, no question and he’ll bring something we need, that middle to late innings hitting and a good fielder as well as bowl some handy overs for us and really put a show on for the crowd. We’ve got later starts with the lights at Headingley so it’s very exciting this year.”Aaron is a great leader, he has a lot of leadership and captaincy experience and having a player like that in the dressing room gives the younger players the opportunity to learn off him. He’s very open with how he likes to go about things and how he tries to adapt to situations in the middle.”Maxwell is no stranger to the English domestic scene. He represented Hampshire in 2012 and 2014 respectively, during their run of five finals in successive seasons, as well as having a stint at Surrey in 2013.”I had two great spells with Hampshire and loved every minute,” he said. “But Yorkshire are one of biggest clubs in the world and to get the chance to play for them is an honour.
