Nicolaas Scholtz’s 40 and 4 for 42, along with Sarel Burger’s 52 helped Nambia to a one-wicket win over Hong Kong in the first ICC World Cricket League Championship game in Windhoek.Chasing 194, Namibia found themselves reeling at 13 for 4 inside six overs thanks to Haseeb Amjad and Nadeem Ahmed’s early strikes. Burger, however, shared two 50-plus stands, with Raymond van Schoor and Nicolaas, to revive the chase. Nicolaas’ dismissal in the 41st over left Namibia with 47 to get from 55 balls, with three wickets in hand. JP Kotze batted around the lower order to keep Namibia in the hunt.Nizakat Khan dismissed JJ Smit for 2 in the 43rd over, as Namibia inched towards the total. Namibia required 19 off the last three overs, but JP Kotze and Bernard Schotz kept the score ticking with singles, and crucial fours from Bernard in the 48th and 49th overs reduced the equation to one needed off the final over. Bernard was run out off the first ball, but Kotze struck the winning runs and remained unbeaten on 31 off 42.Earlier, Hong Kong lost opener Roy Lamsam in the fourth over of their innings when he was run out for a nine-ball duck. Nizakat and Irfan Ahmed put on 46 for the second wicket before Craig Williams had Nizakat caught behind in the 14th over.Hong Kong’s middle over failed to string together any considerable partnerships before Tanwir Afzal and Haseeb Amjad came together for a 45-run seventh-wicket stand pushing them past 140. It was Nadeem Ahmed and Waqas Khan who put on an unbroken 34 runs for the 10th wicket to help Hong Kong to 194 for 9. The Scholtz brothers, Nicolaas and Bernard, shared six wickets between them while giving away 64 runs.

Stirling, Franklin distract Lord's drinkers in style

The Blast: How to bowl a yorker

For most counties Friday is T20 night but Middlesex have always preferred Thursdays. The stroll from St John’s Wood to Lord’s, brimming with City types anticipating their first T20 game of the season, showed why. Many had come armed with the permitted maximum four cans of beer and intending to drink rather more than that. Such supplies have often come in handy for Middlesex fans in T20: the side finished bottom of the South Group last season, winning only two of their 13 completed matches. A seven-wicket defeat at Bristol last week hardly suggested 2015 would be much better for Eoin Morgan’s side.A lot has happened since Morgan last played in a game in England. He has been made ODI captain, an appointment widely cheered; led England to a particular gruesome World Cup exit, even by recent standards; and retained as ODI captain to the chagrin of many. A sojourn in the IPL brought few runs but much tut-tutting about missing an England ODI in Ireland..So perhaps it was just as well that from his fourth ball, nonchalantly lofted over long-on for six, Morgan reaffirmed his limited-overs class. The next ball thundered to the square leg boundary, and Morgan felt near his best; Fabian Cowdrey, swatted for two huge sixes over the legside, will certainly testify as much. Morgan was utterly blasé upon reaching a 25-ball half-century, a man set on plundering plenty more runs this summer. As it happened, Morgan’s was far from the most destructive innings of the night. That accolade fell to his Irish compatriot Paul Stirling, with whom Morgan amassed a century stand in only 48 balls. He has a chunky demeanour and uses his bat rather like a chisel, swatting anything slightly short over long-on or midwicket. At his best there is something wonderfully dismissive to his batting, marrying timing and raw power and caring little for foot movement.Several of Stirling’s seven sixes were monstrous. Having sailed past 82, his previous best T20 score, it was a matter of considerable surprise when he lashed Stevens to midwicket on 90. Still, the authority with which Stirling played – Morgan reckoned it was the best he had ever seen him play – added to the sense of bewilderment that he is marooned in Middlesex’s second XI in red ball cricket. The upshot was that Middlesex cleared 200 and reached their highest-ever T20 score at Lord’s, though it could have been even more: only 35 runs were added in the 4.4 overs after Morgan’s dismissal, with Mitch Claydon bowling with skill and subtlety. Joe Burns, Middlesex’s high-class overseas batsman who has made his name in the first-class game, cut a rather incongruous sight attempting to heave in the death overs. As Kent had hit 178 to win in their previous T20 match at Hampshire, they would not have regarded the total as unreachable, especially when Joe Denly exquisitely flicked his first ball, a good length delivery on off stump from Kyle Abbott, to midwicket for four.Any optimism did not last much longer as Kent’s innings rapidly descended into a series of brainless slogs. Against the New Zealander James Franklin, who does not count as an overseas player because of an Irish passport, the swipes kept finding the legside fielders. He twice found himself on a hat-trick en route to his maiden T20 five-for.Aspects of Kent’s strategy – promoting Matt Coles to No. 3 while demoting Sam Billings to No. 5 – also appeared perplexing. Bowled out inside 15 overs, the final dismissal – Cowdrey caught behind attempting a reverse sweep – seemed appropriately calamitous. So ignominious was their effort that it might have reminded the Lord’s crowd not distracted by their drinks of Middlesex’s own batting performances here last year.”As close to a perfect performance as we’ll get throughout the whole summer,” was Morgan’s assessment. That Nathan Sowter, a 22-year-old legspinner born in Australia, picked up two wickets in four balls merely added to Middlesex’s sense of contentment.

Rossouw found guilty for Tamim shoulder barge

The ICC has found Rilee Rossouw guilty of breaching Article 2.2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct, after he was involved in a shoulder-barging incident with Tamim Iqbal during the second ODI in Mirpur

The ICC has found Rilee Rossouw guilty of breaching their Code of Conduct and docked 50% of his match fee, after he was involved in a shoulder-barging incident with Tamim Iqbal during the second ODI in Mirpur. The incident in question occurred after Tamim was bowled off an inside edge during Kagiso Rabada’s first over. Rossouw, who was walking towards the huddle that had gathered around Rabada near the broken stumps, went across Tamim and appeared to nudge his left shoulder. Tamim immediately pointed this out to the umpires, who possibly missed the incident as they were looking to retrieve the ball from the bowler.Rossouw was found to have breached Article 2.2.7 of the code, which relates to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other Person (including a spectator) in the course of play during an International Match”. It also adds that “without limitation, players will breach this regulation if they deliberately walk or run into or shoulder another player”. Rossouw pleaded guilty to the charge laid by the match referee David Boon and the subsequent penalty was accepted without the need for a formal hearing.”Rilee was very mature in discussions relating to the charge. He felt it was inappropriate but not deliberate, an explanation to which I agreed,” Boon said. “However, there is no place for any form of physical contact in our game and such actions should be punished.”Later, Farhaan Behardien, who was the last person to walk past Tamim before Rossouw, said that there was no malice intended from the fielder but admitted there was a lot of “heat” between the two sides. Immediately after the incident, the broadcasters showed three replays from the same angle.”There was a bit of heat in the game and also when we were batting, especially when Kagiso was batting. We are all men you know. It’s international sport cricket with lots of distortion floating around,” Behardien said. “I think he (Rossouw) was just running through to KG (Kagiso Rabada) to congratulate him for the wicket. He didn’t even look at Tamim. Hopefully the umpires will see that there were no malice.”Tamim maybe walked off a bit slowly, maybe disappointed and he reacted and the umpire saw it. Maybe a big meal was made of it, more than what should have been.”

A memória é curta no futebol.

Gratidão é a voz do coração’.

Petersen confirms reporting suspect approaches

Alviro Petersen has become the first player to confirm that he had reported fixing approaches in the country’s domestic T20 competition, but has denied any involvement

Firdose Moonda04-Mar-2016

Alviro Petersen said he had reported the approaches to the South African Cricketers’ Association and the Anti-Corruption officer after he was made aware of the fixing scandal•AFP

Alviro Petersen has become the first South African player to confirm that he had reported fixing approaches in the country’s domestic T20 competition, but has denied any involvement. His series of tweets were in response to an article on , which said Petersen was being investigated. They come after Gulam Bodi was banned for 20 years in January after admitting to contriving or attempting to fix matches during the 2015 Ram Slam T20 series.”I have seen some media reports about the match-fixing scandal and my name was thrown around… herewith some facts about Bodigate,” Petersen posted.”As far as I’m concerned I’m under no investigation. I confirm that I reported the matter to SACA CEO Tony Irish and ACSU (Anti-Corruption Officer) Louis Cole three days after I was made aware of the fixing scandal. Subsequent to me reporting the matter, two other players also came forward and reported that they were approached. I told the ACSU that all I wanted was for them to stop the fixing in the Ram Slam before it happened. I was in daily communication with the ACSU after I reported the matter. They knew about my meetings and discussions with others.”SACA could not confirm Petersen’s claims because the body will not comment on an ongoing investigation but CEO Tony Irish told ESPNcricinfo, “We have full confidence in David Becker to run a thorough investigation.” Becker is a sports lawyer and a former ICC head of legal, and is heading this investigation. Those conducting and involved in the investigation could also make no comment. ESPNcricinfo understands that Petersen has a lawyer, Robin Twaddle, who advised him not to comment on the matter.Petersen’s franchise, the Highveld Lions, confirmed they are in negotiations to draw up a new contract with Petersen for the 2016-17 season. When asked if they would wait for the outcome of the match-fixing investigation before finalising their contract list, Lions CEO Greg Fredericks said they would not be able to because, “it could take months”.ESPNcricinfo understands that at least three South Africa international cricketers are among those who have been questioned along with several franchise players. Many of them are believed to have rejected Bodi’s offer to fix matches but are guilty of failing to report those approaches. One player who was questioned told ESPNcricinfo he spent “five or six hours with the investigators,” and believed he had cleared his name. He has “not heard anything” from them since the meeting more than a month ago and is now “waiting and waiting and waiting” to see what sanction, if any, he will face for failing to report the offer.Under South Africa’s Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act of 2004, match-fixing and spot-fixing in sport is a crime. The South African Police Service is still waiting to receive information from the investigation, after which they will decide whether to look into the matter themselves. When Bodi’s ban was announced, Haroon Lorgat, CSA CEO said he believed they caught Bodi in a “planning phase” and no matches were fixed, which would make a criminal case unlikely.

Philander to make return in club cricket

Vernon Philander will make a return to competitive cricket after more than four months on the sidelines when he turns out for Tygerberg Cricket Club this weekend

Vernon Philander will make a return to competitive cricket after more than four months on the sidelines when he turns out for Tygerberg Cricket Club this weekend. Philander is the second South African international to use the club system to make a comeback. Last month, Dale Steyn played for Western Province Cricket Club after two months on the bench.Philander has not played any cricket since tearing ankle ligaments during football warm-ups ahead of South Africa’s second Test against India in Bangalore. He was helped off the field and was initially expected to recover in time for the final two Tests against England in January. However, Philander was ruled out of the series and the ODIs that followed which meant he only made one international appearance in the 2015-16 season.Updates on Philander’s activity have been scant but two weeks ago, he posted a picture on Instagram of a new pair of running shoes and said he was “heading closer to playing”. The club match will ease him in but Philander will remain out of the international spotlight until at least June, when South Africa play a triangular series in West Indies that also features Australia. Nonetheless, he will still be under pressure to perform. Tygerberg are currently ninth out of ten teams in the Western Province Division A standings and battling to avoid relegation. The match, which is against University of Cape Town, will take place in Philander’s home-town, Ravensmead.
