Sport Witness relayed an update from Spanish outlet AS regarding City and Riquelme in the last 48 hours. They claimed that City have made an offer to sign the player, who has a €60m release clause, with a move in the initial stages.

The report adds that Atletico are willing to explore sales for plenty of their players, and they could negotiate a deal with City under Riquelme’s release clause.

Riquelme is primarily a left-winger who can also play on the right-hand side or in an attacking midfield role. The 23-year-old actually shares the same agency as Jon Stones and Nathan Ake and is valued at a career-high €12m by Transfermarkt.

The Spaniard has come through Atletico’s academy but has made just two senior appearances for his current employers. That’s because he has been sent out on loan on numerous occasions in recent years, including to Bournemouth where he scored twice in 19 appearances.

Riquelme has most recently been with Girona, though, contributing to eight La Liga goals in 34 appearances, with Atletico’s president, Enrique Cerezo, describing the winger’s efforts last season as “magnificent”.

“He had a magnificent season at Girona, and now Rayo [Vallecano] is interested in him.

“He is a great player, and I believe he has a place at Atletico.”

It looks as if a move to the Etihad could be one to watch this summer, and who knows, Guardiola may feel he could take Riquelme’s game to the next level, potentially viewing him as a long-term alternative to someone like Silva.

One name who is repeatedly touted as a target for Moyes is Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria, with the Evening Standard suggesting West Ham have now held talks with the Serie A heavyweights over a loan move with the option to buy.

It is claimed that the Europa Conference League winners would be prepared to pay £16m to permanently sign the Switzerland international, who spent last season on loan in the Premier League with West Ham's London rivals Chelsea.

However, not since 2020-21 has Zakaria played more than 16 games in a league season, and West Ham supporters need no reminding of what happened when they previously loaned a player from Juve with the option to make it permanent.

Simone Zaza made just 11 appearances for West Ham in the 2016-17 season, eight of those in the Premier League and each without scoring. In fact, so bad was the forward's loan spell that just five months after signing he was on his way to Valencia and he was not seen again.

Zakaria and Zaza are different types of player, of course, but the warning signs are there. The Italian was also recruited by Juve amid much fanfare, only to last only a season – four months more than Zakaria, at least – before being shipped out to east London.

West Ham cannot say the warning signs are not there, either, as Zakaria ranks in the bottom 1% of all midfielders across Europe's elite leagues for progressive passes (1.78 per 90 minutes) over the past year, and in the bottom 17% for blocks (0.89 per 90), an area he once thrived in.

While the need for a Rice replacement is apparent, Zakaria is surely not West Ham's man.

She said: “I think there’s a lot of cat and mouse going on here. As a sporting director, I used to do this a lot.

“So I used to call up a big club and say, can you put a bid in, and that would get my owner to basically put a higher bid in. It’s a bit like an auction, isn’t it?

“I don’t think Manchester City actually want to sign Declan Rice, I think what’s going on here is Arteta’s picked up the phone to Pep and said, listen, Arsenal are going to do the incremental bid approach, if you put a bid in, it will push my owner.

“I think there’s a bit of that going on here.”

Tielemans is also stronger aerially, winning an average of one duel per game (68.4%), compared to 0.77 per game (53.2%) for Luiz, as well as leading the way for tackles won – 1.50 compared to 1.29.

Leicester's relegation may cloud somewhat just how good a player Tielemans has been – and indeed still is – with Pep Guardiola among the talented midfielder's fans.

"Tielemans is a top, top class player," Guardiola said in 2021, adding that he was told all about Tielemans' qualities by Vincent Kompany long before the defender's compatriot had arrived in the Premier League.

This has culminated in just three senior appearances, which should be vastly expanded upon next season with more game time likely forthcoming.

Gyabi's work in the U20 World Cup serves to offer further proof as to just how remarkable he is for his age, as the teenage sensation has recorded a 7.07 average rating thus far, maintaining an 88% pass accuracy alongside, one interception, 2.7 tackles and 2.7 successful dribbles per game, via Sofascore.

This tough-tackling mindset blended with elegance on the ball makes him a technical marvel, who already stands at a whopping 6 foot 5 to only emphasise his stature as someone capable of making the step up.

He has everything needed to shine at senior level, and it could be argued that a run of games in the Premier League might have even been merited. But with huge changes set to occur this summer once McKennie and co depart, Gyabi should offer some clarity for the new boss, as a nailed-on starter for their new adventure in the Championship.

With Tottenham set to part ways with acting manager Ryan Mason following the end of the Premier League season, It's reported that Xabi Alonso, their initial no.1 candidate, had ruled himself out of contention while Postecoglou looks quite likely to commit to another year at Celtic.

For Spurs there wouldn't be an exorbitant exit clause due to the 57-year-old's one-year rolling contract with Celtic. Yet, the manager's desire is to remain at the club with his "ultimate ambition" said to be to guide Celtic through to the Champions League knockout stages.

Additionally, the current Celtic side has been "largely recruited by him" and so Postecoglou wants to yield returns on that faith shown in him by the club.

What is Ange Postecoglou's contract situation at Celtic?

As reported by the Daily Mail, Postecoglou is on a one-year rolling contract. This means that unless terminated by either the club or the manager, it will renew again and "roll" into another season.

For Celtic, it's a precarious situation as they can do little to prevent Postecoglou from leaving if he decided to due to the lack of a prohibitive exit clause.

For instance, another former Spurs managerial candidate, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has a £17m release clause, while the Daily Mail claims Postecoglou's contract does not contain an "expensive" clause.
