Everton transfer news: Richarlison & DCL

A source from Everton has revealed that Farhad Moshiri is now plotting a ‘major’ overhaul of the squad in the summer.

The Lowdown: Change coming?

After the season that the Goodison Park faithful have had, big changes are needed on the pitch to ensure that they do not find themselves in a relegation battle again.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The likes of James Tarkowski and Florian Grillitsch have recently been linked as potential incomings, while Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a move away from Merseyside.

The Latest: Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison out

As per Football Insider, a source with knowledge of their recruitment has revealed that Moshiri is now ‘plotting’ a ‘major’ overhaul for the Toffees this summer, and both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could be two ‘star’ names that may leave in a mass exodus.

They are thought of as the Blues’ ‘most valuable’ assets, as evident by their market values compared to the rest of the squad.

The Verdict: Sell one, keep one

Given their values, Frank Lampard’s team could potentially afford to sell one of them for a premium price, but if they were to lose both, they would be very difficult to replace.

Despite the miserable season, Richarlison still remains their joint-top scorer with seven goals in total over all competitions, while in an injury-hit campaign, Calvert-Lewin managed to score previous seasons his scoring credentials for the club.

Nonetheless, EFC could sell one to raise funds for strengthening in other key areas of the pitch, and keep the other to hopefully get them firing again.

Liverpool receive Trent injury boost

Trent Alexander-Arnold could be fit for Liverpool’s vital Premier League clash with Manchester City, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Liverpool suffer Trent blow

The Reds are firing on all cylinders at the moment, with their quadruple chances still alive going into April, in what could be a legendary season at Anfield.

They suffered a blow recently, however, with Alexander-Arnold suffering a hamstring issue in the 2-0 win away to Arsenal in the Premier League.

It was reported that he would miss ‘weeks’ and therefore the potentially season-defining trip to City on April 10th, but that may have changed.

The Latest: Promising update emerges

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, The Athletic‘s Pearce claimed that Alexander-Arnold could now be available, in what is a significant update:

“Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rehab progressing well. Chance he could be fit for crunch clash at the Etihad on April 10 – but that would be a quick return. Important hurdles still to clear. (Includes an update on Naby Keita too).”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-26/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Potentially result-defining

Alexander-Arnold’s influence is absolutely enormous, so him starting at the Etihad a week on Sunday has the potential to alter Liverpool’s title chances.

The 23-year-old is the Reds’ main creative force, registering 15 assists this season, with so much of their play coming through his wand of a right foot, in terms of his passing, crossing and energy down the flank.

Alexander-Arnold being fit would give City so much more to worry about than if Joe Gomez plays at right-back, with all due respect to the makeshift full-back, and it would enhance Liverpool’s hopes of picking up one of their biggest Premier League wins of all time.

Dane Scarlett: Tottenham’s rare diamond

Tottenham Hotspur gem Dane Scarlett could have a big future in north London and he may well play a part during the 2021/22 campaign.

The 17-year-old academy prospect has now played five times for the senior side, including 90 minutes against Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying stage.

His form for the young Lilywhites has certainly caught the eye, having bagged three goals in six appearances at U23 level, on top of an impressive 23 goals and four assists for the U18s, via Transfermarkt.

Spurs fans have every right to remain cautious but Scarlett is a talent they should be hugely excited about.

For every Harry Kane, there is a Cameron Lancaster, but the teenage sensation is different. He’s something special and under Nuno Santo, he could well become a first-team star.

Given the 28-year-old’s arduous transfer saga in the summer and reports suggesting that the new head coach wanted to play two up-top, Scarlett could soon see his game time increase at the club, particularly as they still remain in all domestic and European competitions.

Rotation will be key and Kane remains their only senior centre-forward, so it would not be a surprise to see more of the emerging Hotspur Way prodigy throughout the current campaign.

Scarlett became the youngest-ever player to feature for the north Londoners last season and he’s someone that former manager Jose Mourinho regularly praised in the press.

After an assist off the bench in their Europa League clash with Wolfsberger AC, the ‘Special One’ told BT Sport (via The Athletic):

“He is a diamond, a kid with incredible potential. He has worked many times with the first team and that gives him a different personality. He is still 16, 17 soon (in March) and I believe next season he will be a first-team squad player because he has a lot of talent.”

Scarlett has even drawn comparisons to Marcus Rashford, who Mourinho managed at Old Trafford, so this sort of analysis shouldn’t be taken lightly.

“He is going to be a fantastic player and I hope everything around him goes well. He is a striker, a number nine, I have been playing him from the sides similar to Marcus Rashford and he is very clever,” he added.

It’s not every day that a promising talent of this nature comes up through the Spurs system. He is one rare and exciting prospect that should have the Lilywhites faithful super excited to see more.

This season could well be Scarlett’s time to shine.

West Ham fans praise Ben Johnson

A number of West Ham fans have been showering Ben Johnson with praise after his performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Hammers picked up a sweet win against Spurs at the London Stadium, prevailing 1-0. Michail Antonio was on the scoresheet, and the Irons have now moved up to fourth place in the Premier League table. David Moyes and co will surely be confident of improving on their sixth-place finish last season after this result.

Johnson was included in the starting line-up for his third league outing of the campaign (Transfermarkt) as he continued to deputise for the injured Vladimir Coufal. Once again, the 21-year-old helped the Irons keep a clean sheet as he kept the likes of Heung-Min Son and Sergio Reguilon quiet down his right flank, and lots of fans were absolutely delighted with what the youngster had to offer.

West Ham have not conceded a goal whenever he has been on the pitch this season (Transfermarkt), with Johnson starring as he won all seven of his duels and made five tackles in a tremendous defensive display (Sofascore).

These Hammers fans took to social media platform Twitter in their droves to share their thoughts on Johnson’s “class” performance.

Let’s see what these fans had to say about Johnson

Celtic predicted XI to face St Mirren

Celtic have tapped into a rich vein of form in all competitions and are swatting their opponents aside with relative ease of late.

The Hoops have won their last five competitive matches, scoring an impressive 18 goals in the process, against Jablonec (two legs), Hearts, Dundee and AZ Alkmaar.

They now face St Mirren in the Premiership as they look to make it six wins on the bounce and two wins from three in the league. Celtic Park will surely be rocking after recent results and that should create a sublime atmosphere to inspire the players during the match.

Who will be able to enjoy it from the start? Here is our predicted XI for this afternoon…

We are predicting that Ange Postecoglou will make two changes to his XI from the 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League earlier this week.

The first player we believe will come back in is Odsonne Edouard. The former PSG attacker started and scored in Celtic’s 3-2 win over Hearts in the League Cup last weekend and was rested for the clash with AZ Alkmaar, with Liel Abada coming in on the wing and Kyogo Furuhashi moving centrally.

However, Abada failed to take his chance as he produced a disappointing performance. He was given a FotMob rating of 6.5, the lowest in the side, as he created zero chances and only had 30 touches during his time on the pitch before being substituted. This is why we think that Edouard will be brought back into the team for the clash with St Mirren today.

The other change we are predicting is James McCarthy for Tom Rogic. Celtic signed the Irishman from Crystal Palace on a free transfer this summer but he has been restricted to two 15-minute substitute appearances thus far.

Postecoglou labeled McCarthy as “top-class” upon the midfielder’s arrival at Parkhead. The 55-year-old said: “I’m delighted that we have signed two top-class players in Joe and James. Both of them have a wealth of experience at both club and international level, and that is something which can only benefit the squad, and I’m looking forward to working with both of them.”

This change is not because of Rogic’s form, but rather to give McCarthy a chance to show off his quality in front of the home fans for his full debut. It also gives the Australian midfielder a rest to make sure he is fully fit for the second leg against AZ Alkmaar next week.

With the Hoops on a winning run, we are backing Postecoglou to stick with the other nine members of the XI from the win over the Eredivisie club so as not to disrupt momentum too much.

Spurs fans erupt over FIFA ratings

Flocking to Twitter, many Tottenham Hotspur fans have erupted with a wide array of verdicts after the club shared the FIFA 22 ratings for their current squad via their official channel on the social media platform.

The yearly release of the globally popular console game always attracts much debate online in the eyes of the football community as the quality of their favourite players become summed up in one overall number.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-news-2/” title=”Spurs latest news…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Taking into account aspects like pace, physicality, defensive work, passing range, shooting and overall dribbling ability, supposed ‘experts’ weigh the best overall number rating for a certain player based off all of these attributes.

Game manufacturers EA Sports have now dropped the latest batch for their new edition of FIFA this season as Tottenham shared the ratings for their players and asked supporters for their verdicts.

Erupting with a wide array of takes, there are some ratings which have not gone down well with some supporters, like the decision to hand Japhet Tanganga a lowly 73 rating and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg an 83.

Check out some of the Spurs fans’ opinions on the player ratings update below.

Romano reveals Everton transfer update

Everton have now officially sold Lucas Digne to Aston Villa, and in return are set to take one of their players off their hands and a fresh update on the move has been revealed.

What’s the word?

Fabrizio Romano has revealed an update on Everton’s signing of Anwar El Ghazi.

The Italian transfer insider tweeted in the early hours of this morning:

“Anwar El Ghazi has signed his contract as new Everton player, deal sealed and here-we-go confirmed. Medical completed, official announcement will be today.

“El Ghazi joins on loan from Aston Villa. Buy option clause [not mandatory] is also included in the deal.”

Fans will be furious

The move for El Ghazi to Everton is one that will come tinged with negativity, as he is signing at the cost of fan favourite, Digne, and when you look at Everton’s team, the signing of a winger doesn’t seem to be a priority position to fill in the team.

After all, they already have the likes of Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray, Anthony Gordon and Alex Iwobi at their disposal in that area of the pitch.

Toffees fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts and their confusion on the signing of the Dutch attacker, with one fan exclaiming:

“We’re wasting money to replace players who don’t get a game then? El Ghazi to replace our 5th choice winger? Clearly the priority should have been a CDM/CM to replace Allan, one of our best players, essential to breaking up play, who Rafa seems determined to drive out next.”

Another furious fan tweeted:

“Gone from Carlo, James, Digne to Rafa, Rondon, El Ghazi. Biggest downgrade in history.”

Indeed, it’s easy to see why they’re so angry about proceedings. The club seems to have not learned their lesson about wasting money on players that they don’t need, with owner Farhad Moshiri making a large number of signings in his time as owner of the club.

He has spent over £500m without the Toffees progressing or winning any trophies in the process, and as a consequence, they now that they sit 15th in the Premier League, just six points off relegation.

Therefore, the idea of signing a player who isn’t even a regular at one of their league rivals is a puzzling one as it’s unlikely to take them to the next level at all.

It will be interesting to see how Benitez will fit the Villa man into his line-up and whether he will become a first-team player, replacing a starter already in the side.

Rangers: Wilson impressed by Knutsen

An update has emerged on Rangers’ pursuit of a new manager, regarding a possible candidate for the role…

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Record, 53-year-old Bodo Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen is a coach who has caught Ross Wilson’s eye in his search for Steven Gerrard’s replacement.

The report claims that he is also on Norwich’s shortlist to take over at Carrow Road, whilst the Gers are also plotting talks with ex-Feyenoord man Gio van Bronckhorst.

Dream for Rangers

Wilson could discover a dream Rangers boss in Knutsen with his progressive, front-foot, style and impressive C.V in Norway with Glimt. He broke the goalscoring record in the Norweigan top-flight as his side found the back of the net a whopping 103 times last season as they won the title, whilst his team also beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1 in the Conference League earlier this term.

This shows that he is capable of setting up a team to play exciting, free-flowing, football to score goals at a ridiculous rate, which could excite Rangers fans and explain why he could be a dream appointment. He could carry on where Gerrard left off and help the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe thrive, as he has shown that he can organise a team to flourish in front of goal.

Glimt captain Ulrick Saltnes described Knutsen’s style as ‘kamikaze’ and the man himself outlined his demands for the players on the pitch, wanting his side to dominate all aspects of the game. He said:

“Dominating doesn’t just mean scoring but also having the possession of the ball and dictating the rules of the game.

“We want to create a team identity that encompasses everyone; players, staff, managers, fans. We must confront ourselves to be able to create this ‘Bodo model’.”

This goes further to show that he wants his team to play in a defined style and will try to employ a dominant, attack-orientated, system at Ibrox. Therefore, he could be an excellent appointment by Wilson if he is able to translate his success over to Scotland.

The Gers chief should, at the very least, explore the move and see if he is a viable option in the coming days as his background suggests that he could be a great addition to the dugout. Supporters could get excited about the prospect of their team firing in the goals on a consistent basis and winning titles under him, following on from what he has achieved in Norway.

Leeds eyeing Josko Gvardiol move

Leeds United are keen on signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Previous interest

The Whites were linked with a move for Gvardiol following promotion back to the Premier League. However, the 20-year-old, who journalist Izak Ante Sucic told BBC Sport is “built like a tank”, snubbed a move to Elland Road to sign for RB Leipzig.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-04-02T155252Z_391313781_UP1EI421841M9_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-SOU-REPORT.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Gvardiol made 18 appearances under Jesse Marsch at Leipzig, and with the American now in charge at Elland Road, it looks as if the Croatia international is wanted once again in Yorkshire.

The Latest: Source reveal

FI shared a story on Thursday morning regarding Leeds and Gvardiol after being informed by a Whites source.

They claimed that Leeds are stepping up their interest in the defender and Victor Orta has had scouts watching him at recent matches ahead of a potential summer move.

The Verdict: Club-record deal?

The report adds that Leipzig now value Gvardiol at £27m, so it looks as if Leeds will need to hit their club record to sign the centre-back this summer, matching or eclipsing the £27m they spent on Rodrigo.

A defensive overhaul is in the pipeline over the coming months, with Robin Koch a player who could be set to leave the club ahead of Marsch’s first full season in charge.

Gvardiol may well be the man to arrive as a marquee signing, so a move could once again be one to watch closely.

Behind-scenes Conte claim emerges at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur fans will love the latest claim surrounding Antonio Conte…

What’s the word?

It was a ruthless January transfer window for the north London outfit as it was very much more about the outgoings than the incomings but either way, it truly signalled the start of the Italian’s era at the club.

Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur were his only signings in a whirlwind deadline day, both signing from sporting director Fabio Paratici’s former club, Juventus.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the deadwood was shifted on – largely on loan – as club-record flop Tanguy Ndombele returned to Lyon, whilst Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil were shipped back to Spain, with Dele Alli being the only permanent exit as he joined top-flight rivals, Everton.

There were fears emerging throughout the window that Conte could walk if he wasn’t sufficiently backed by the board and on the face of it, only two signings would leave that situation somewhat in the lurch.

However, new claims behind the scenes suggest that he’s very pleased with the business Spurs have conducted – as revealed by the ever-reliable Alasdair Gold of football.london, who wrote:

‘While all managers will always want more in a transfer window, and Conte is no different, those around the Italian have told football.london that he is content with the early changes made at his behest in his first transfer window.’

Very encouraging

Conte may be left with a smaller squad but he’s got two solid additions in Kulusevski and Bentancur, and is likely to be left with a more harmonious dressing room, one full of players who are fully behind his relentless ethic on the training pitch.

There is an acceptance that the summer will be the window to truly transform things right across the club and you’re inclined to agree. Truth be told, it’ll take many more windows to elevate Spurs back into the Champions League equation.

It is a good start as the bulk of the players that saw the exit door on deadline day were rarely featuring under the Italian anyway.

Supporters can now rest at ease about their world-class coach as he truly appears to be in it for the long haul and considering he’s already worked his magic – losing just one league game since his arrival in November – then Gold’s update will be music to the ears of many.

Such fears can now be forgotten with Spurs just two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United, whom they hold two games in hand over, too.

Conte’s refreshed squad returns to action on Saturday evening, where they face Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup fourth round, their final chance of securing instant silverware under the former Chelsea boss.
